ALPINE BANK STUDENT OF THE MONTH Ashley Weir ACADEMIC HUMANITARIAN LEADER Ashley Weir, a Glenwood Springs High School senior, moved to Colorado from her native Roatan in 2008. Moving from this island off the mainland of Honduras to the heart of the Rockies has provided her an uncommon maturity for her seventeen years "Being able to compare the education system in Roatan to that of the United States really puts into perspective the disparity in quality of education. Ashley says. "I look at every day that I'm able to go to school as a gift." She has certainly maximized her tenure at Glenwood High. This bilingual scholar is the student body president, a member of both the traditional and Spanish National Honors Society, a varsity soccer player and a drama enthusiast. Ashley has participated in mission trips and done service work in central Chile and on Easter Island. Now,shehas her sights set on four years of study at" Washu or Washington University in St. Louis. Close second choices are Case Western Reserve, Wake Forest and Colorado College. Afier college, she plans to enroll in the Peace Corps and then go to medical school.
