STEWARDS OF WEST GLENWOOD'S PAST MAKE A CASE FOR ITS FUTURE Dear Friends + Community, The only constant is change and my family has seen plenty of it in the Roaring Fork Valey in the five generations since our family frst settled near EI Jebel next to the Hooks Bridge in 1905, We have now been residents of Glenwood Springs for over 70 years, with my grandparents. Adolph and Edith Diemoz, leading the way by giving themselves fully to the community starting in 1948 as home contractors and bulders, civic leaders and ranchers. Our family's infuence is over much of what Glenwood Springs has become Road and safety improvements are coming, at last. Rood improvements and a much-needed sidewalk on both Donegan and Mel Rey Roads are part and parcel of the R2 development. A sidewalk on Donegan Road will alow Two Rivers Community School students, and all pedestrians, sate access to and from athietic programs at the Glenwood Springs Middie School to the east. Traffic management fire evocuation are a priority. Glenwood Springs Fire Department Chief Gary Tilotson along with other governmental ogencies are in the process of identifying improved traffic management plans for emergency evacuations in West Glenwood. In 2019, the Rosenberg famly and R2 Partners approached us with the best proposal we have seen (and we've seen a lot) to develop and transform our remaining undeveloped 12 ocres into an opportunity for more Glenwood Springs workers and families to formalize their local connections by becoming renters and homeowners within city limits. "We are confident the forthcoming plans (traffic management/egress evacuation) will be completed well in advance of any development of the subject property." Tilotson wrote in a May 25, 2021. memo to the Planning & Zoning committee. With a dramatic 2.000-unit shortfal identifed in the 2019 Roaring Fork Housing Study and in April 2021, the Glenwood Springs Housing Commission endorsed our family's decision to support the R2 Partnership project based on the need for more rental housing. As a show of good faith, the Rosenbergs have also voluntarily offered to comply with the City's new affordoble housing standards, which went into effect after the development opplication was submitted. A small-town mindset is key. Glenwood's comprehensive plan cites its most significant goal as "smal town character."
