Join us at City Council this Thursday 8/19 at 6:00 p.m. to oppose the annexation of 480 Donegan 480 Donegan 332 Units GWS Mall With close to 1,700 petition signatures WE must ask ourselves, is THS for the "GREATER BENEFIT" to the City of Glenwood Springs? Currently within the city limits there are 500 rental units in the pipeline to be built. Are MORE needed? Should the City of GWS alone bear the many impacts of housing so many in our region? Now is the time to seek more creative solutions such as staff/employee housing for schools, government, non-profits, affordable tiny homes, Habitat for Humanity homes or senior housing options. The City is already challenged with taking care of what is in the HELP BUILD A city limits, should MORE be annexed? Garfield County staff recommends the city annexing "ALL of West Glenwood!" SAFER COMMUNITY GLENWOOD SAFE GLENWOOD STRONG How it is possible that R2 "will limit occupancy to ONLY 600 com o residents" given that their 332 units are comprised of studios, one, two and three-bedroom units, as well as townhomes? There MUST be an Evacuation Plan in place and improvements in fire mitigation before ANY further residential development in West Glenwood. Will "greater benefits" be gained with this out-of-state development proposal AND rental revenues not staying locally? Can BETTER be achieved for Glenwood Springs? Garfield County Commissioner Mike Samson at a recent meeting review of these proposals supports a "coalition of groups, organizations, governments that could come together and work with the Diemoz family to make that a more beneficial area for the people that already live there. would even be in favor as a With R2 Partners under contract to purchase the West Glenwood Mall, there SHOULD be a Master Plan for both adjoining parcels with direct access to Highway 6 & 24, NOT PRIMARILY through the neighborhood! The Comprehensive Plan is from 2011 and MUST be updated. Conditions HAVE changed and making decisions based on a decade-old plan is senseless. Citizens need to be involved! County Commissioner to be part of that. I think that would be a better solution for all of Garfield County." We agree, Commissioner Samson! There is a shortage of public parkland in this area. Developers are required to dedicate both park and school land but R2 wishes to pay "fees in lieu" of actual land, offset by resident-use ONLY facilities, a public tot lot, and bike lanes/sidewalks. LAND IS PERMANENT! Please share your thoughts related to these items by attending the City Council meeting Thursday August 19th in-person, or remotely by Zoom. Email the City Clerk your concerns to forward to city council members at: ryan.muse@cogs.us Paid for by the West Glenwood Pasture Development group.
